I walked several blocks of the rainway with the kids today. We agreed to go back and check it out in the next atmospheric river.

A clumsy attempt at flattering a juvenile egomaniac?

That is certainly A reason to homebrew. Another reason is that you want to have beer. I remember at Dan's Homebrew in Vancouver both types of customers would rub elbows at the counter, and there were definitely lots of people in between. They wanted beer and if it was good, that was even better.

They're welcome!

Real incomes maybe didn't, but with COLA I would guarantee you that nominal incomes did. I don't know how much, but they for sure rose.

Wage increases typically lag inflation, so I expect we did better in '23-'25, when rents were falling. But I don't know, because I don't have time to figure it out. i wish a journalist would put it in context for me.
December 3, 2025 at 7:25 AM
One of a journalist's jobs (in my opinion, what do I know) is to help people understand things they don't necessarily have the time to do the analysis of and understand. And maybe it's counterproductive to that end to throw up statistics and "but, uh" without context or inflation adjustment
December 3, 2025 at 7:04 AM
Yes, but minimum wage is now geared to inflation and wages did rise over that time. I understand how difficult the rent spike of 2020-23 was. It didn't hurt me, but I saw my coworkers struggle with it.

But your "but, uh" and the juxtaposition of these graphs implies the BCNDP are being disingenuous

I mean, here's Statcan's calculator. Not exactly the same as inflation-adjusted 2019 rents, but...
December 3, 2025 at 6:44 AM
Is that adjusted for inflation? Because there's been a bit of that. I'm sure we're not back to 2019 rents, but surely not as bad as this graph looks.

I, alas, cannot. If I have dal every other week (with leftovers for lunch), my interest in dal is fulfilled.

Good call

I might have to

Glad to hear it!

Mitch and I tasted the whole list last night, and I agree, it's tasting great. I'm glad the vibe of the room matched the awesomeness of the beer list.

I back this 100%.

Where can I sign up? Do you need an angry protester or a martyr to lie down in front of a car on Lakewood? I'm open to other suggestions.
