A good man. And thorough. The gent that ‘does' long-running Digitiser fansite superpage.com
1. Self Esteem - A Complicated Woman
As different from Prioritise Pleasure as that was from Compliments Please; still unmistakably Rebecca Lucy Taylor. The soaring choruses and scalpel-sharp lyrics are still present, with an irresistible momentum that carries you barrelling forward, heart soaring.

2. Luvcat - Vicious Delicious
Who says there aren’t any good pop stars anymore? Since creating her alter ego, Sophie Morgan’s music has skyrocketed. Glam-goth torch songs and murder ballads, like Nick Cave and The Dresden Dolls playing a vaudeville carnival.

3. Matt Berninger - Get Sunk
After this and two National albums in the last two years, the writers block that previously plagued their frontman is well and truly broken. It doesn’t hurt that much of Get Sunk would sit happily alongside much of his band’s best work. Quietly brilliant.

4. Jade - That's Showbiz Baby!
About as good as solo debuts get. An all-killer electro-pop dream.

5. Lambrini Girls - Who Let The Dogs Out
The debut they promised, and then some. Loud, riotous, and full of righteous fury. Essential stuff.

6. CMAT - Euro-Country
She keeps on getting better with every album. The title track is a joy, and her sardonic wit is just as impressive - especially on The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station.

7. Pulp - More
More than worthy of a return, and in Spike Island and Got To Have Love, songs that genuinely earn a place in their setlists for years to come.

8. Rialto - Neon & Ghost Signs
The unexpected return of the underrated suave Britpoppers was equally as unexpectedly good. An album where you keep thinking that the next track surely can’t be as good as the last, but it always is.

9. Decius - Decius Vol. II (Splendour & Obedience)
The spirit of acid house lives. Who knew it lived inside Fat White Family’s Lias Saoudi? Ear candy for anyone craving the old school sounds of Chicago.

10. Marie Davidson - City Of Clowns
Soulwax-produced banger of an album from the French Canadian, who once again proves she knows exactly where the dancefloor is.

Excellent couple of days of vinyl acquisitions - two of those haven’t been on vinyl for 21 years, and are long overdue a repress.

I’m doing my teletext thing at Chunky Fringe 2025 today, and have the privilege of hosting the final panel with Mr Biffo himself, Paul Rose. You can watch along live on Twitch if you want to follow along with the geeky/silly fun.

1. The Cure - Songs Of A Lost World

What more can be said about this extraordinary record? Demands your attention from the first note to the last, their most essential album in 35 years,
December 13, 2024 at 9:56 PM
2. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Wild God

Transcendent joy, elevated through grief. Shades of Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus, which is a strong, strong recommendation.
December 13, 2024 at 9:54 PM
3. Pixey - Million Dollar Baby

Sunshine and breakbeats. Made for a Glastonbury sunset slot.
December 13, 2024 at 9:53 PM
4. Public Service Broadcasting - The Last Flight

Takes everything they do best and distills it into one of their most cohesive, song-based albums to date. Pure ear candy.
December 13, 2024 at 9:52 PM
5. Charli XCX - Brat

Era-defining, in all its forms. The most important pop artist around today.
December 13, 2024 at 9:51 PM
6. W. H. Lung - Every Inch Of Earth Pulsates

Manchester continues to produce bands capable of classic albums that combine melancholia with life-affirming dance hooks, and W.H. Lung's third is their best yet.

7. Sofia Portanet - Chasing Dreams

Second album from the Neue Deutsche Welle revivalist sees her taking her debut's compelling atmosphere and adding soaring pop hooks. Irresistible.
December 13, 2024 at 9:47 PM
8. Confidence Man - 3AM (La La La)

The Brisbane party-starters roar back with another unashamed electro-pop riot.
December 13, 2024 at 9:44 PM
9. Fat Dog - Woof.

If you're not paying attention when you put this on, that won't last long. Grabs you by the lapels and slaps you silly. File next to The KLF and Utah Saints.

10. Peggy Gou - I Hear You

Finally! A long time coming, but well worth the wait. Sublime dance music from the South Korean DJ.
