Lots of folks showed up for #NoKings in Newark, NY. Maybe 650 according to the organizers. Mostly chill. A few truck chuds making vroom vrooms in traffic.

#NoKings in Marion, NY way outside of #RochesterNY … guessing about 200 people along Main Street in this unincorporated hamlet of 1500.
June 14, 2025 at 8:05 PM
Ok I'll wrap up with this for now. At 3:05:18 CNN Health Week covers "A Decade of AIDS”, interviewing Dr. Anthony Fauci of the NIH.
June 13, 2025 at 6:03 PM
At 3:02:39 "A British health agency says it will stop offering an artificial insemination service known as 'virgin birth'"... "[the service] was criticized because it was offered to single women".
June 13, 2025 at 6:00 PM
At 3:02:05 we cover "anti-government protests" in Seoul, South Korea. "An estimated 10,000 students threw bricks and firebombs and battled with riot police near the city's great south gate".
June 13, 2025 at 5:56 PM
At 2:21:10–2:26:54 we seem to recap the entire parade. Nice job cutting together a 5 minute package so quick. Next up is Newsmaker Saturday, where Senator Mitch Fucking McConnell repeatedly states that Saddam Hussein is "no longer a threat to his neighbors".
June 13, 2025 at 5:50 PM
This thing wraps up around 2:14:20 with some explosions and flag waving and music. We cut to commercial and Joy and Regis Philbin sell us crackers.
June 13, 2025 at 5:43 PM
Everybody sings "God Bless America" at 2:11:32. There is a float from the troops thanking folks for sending letters while they were deployed. I don't remember sending my Dad letters (I'm sure I did) but I definitely remember Mom sending Dad booze in Listerine bottles.
June 13, 2025 at 5:37 PM
Bunch of flybys and paraded planes starting around 1:51:30. Wolf says 82 aircraft doing flybys.
June 13, 2025 at 5:31 PM
At 1:45:40 Wolf talks about the Pioneer UAV "What they used to call a drone [...] and it has a uhh... camera". Wolf then talks about its capabilities, and John wishes CNN could afford such a thing for I guess journalism.
June 13, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Wolf clearly has a lookbook of funnily-shaped military vehicles. He names and describes each species as it rolls by. At 1:34:47 Wolf comments on how well Constitution Ave is holding up to the 68 ton M1A1 tanks.
June 13, 2025 at 5:12 PM
Genny commercial @ 1:28:57 ... had to yoink this one for #RochesterNY #ROC
June 13, 2025 at 5:03 PM
Whatever happened to this guy? @ 1:24:37
June 13, 2025 at 4:57 PM
2.5 mile long parade route to the Pentagon. John Holliman claims 100k people in attendance. 8800 troops. $12 million cost.

Patriot missile launchers around 1:18:11.
June 13, 2025 at 4:54 PM
Schwarzkopf comin @ 56:30. Later on in the broadcast there's an airline ad that parodies his famous press conference. As you do.
June 13, 2025 at 4:45 PM
At 55:17 Molly McCoy tells us things have finally begun... and the first shot is this tank literally SQUEAKIN' ON BY the grandstands... it sounds like a Jetsons Cinematic Universe vehicle.
June 13, 2025 at 4:41 PM
Christ, now (31:50) Hannah Storm puts on her shoulder pads to bring us BASEBALL '91! Can you answer the Lipton Iced Tea BAFFLER question?
June 13, 2025 at 4:36 PM
Still waiting for things to pop off at 29:23...

And an excerpt from Bush Senior's speech at Arlington starts at 30:36...
June 13, 2025 at 4:28 PM
SPOILER ALERT: the otter story (22:12) is that a Corpus Christi aquarium bought an old washed-up female otter and it turns out it was pregnant with triplets ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also they were pretty jazzed about using camcorders to record scientific observations.
June 13, 2025 at 4:23 PM
At 5:00 we start "Science and Technology Week" w/ stories about a satellite-launching rail gun, "brown-tides" in Texas (gross), otters, and Tom Hanks promoting new animal-friendly breakaway six-pack rings in Santa Monica.

One might ask "why on earth do you have a VHS recording of CNN's coverage of the 1991 National Victory Celebration parade" and the answer is that my Dad was in it. At about 2:03:45 in the video, as the entire crowd is looking up at some dumb planes flying over, my Dad's Coast Guard unit marches by.
June 13, 2025 at 3:59 PM
I've just uploaded a VHS of CNN covering the June 8, 1991 "National Victory Celebration" parade (and surrounding programming). I'll try to thread some highlights this afternoon but be sure to check out this brown-haired military affairs correspondent "Wolf Blitzer"?
