She/Her. Historian of Philosophy and Religion. Sanskritist. Professor. Detroit Roots. Aspiring Canadian. Fluevog Love. Long Covid Life.

Proud 3rd generation union member. It all started when two of my grandfathers sat down in Flint.
At some point academia, in particular, decided you’re morally lacking if you don’t love making every complicated thing from scratch and I swear that is not the life I signed up for.

Lentils are always a great choice because they don’t require soaking. My two favourites are:

1. Lentils, Monastery Style from the original Diet for a Small Planet. It can easily be found online now.

2. Dal Tarka is one of my favourite Indian dishes, and it has nearly endless variations.

So deeply evil. I cannot believe her hateful TERF vote.

Oh, absolutely.

This feels like a very weird moment, where the US has such outsized influence, even compared to the rest of post war history, that it’s easy to forget the contributions global networks have made to these ideas.

I apologize if I was too “well Actually!” I just really, really resent the influence of the American right in this province.

I immigrated here from the US 20 years ago, and it’s been maddening to watch my neighbours morph from ridiculing the US to emulating only the very worst parts of the US.

Absolutely! This movement is dangerously interwoven throughout the world.

So, essentially, Canada’s anti vaxx and public health movement can’t be separated from the US—which is true for the world as a whole, as well.

I completely agree getting rid of him isn’t sufficient. But it has a bigger impact globally than we might like.

Alberta is almost singularly responsible for Canada losing its measles free status due to a premier and her base who are enthralled with the American right wing, and RFK Jr in particular. Their fascination is rewarded with tons of money and support from south of the border.

On the one hand, I agree with you. The anti-vaxx movement has been very strong across wealthy countries since Wakefield first rose to prominence. If anything, Canada is newer to this movement than most of Europe is, for example.

But I’d also add a bit of context, as a resident of Alberta.

She and Ford are a comedy match made in heaven, as they both lean towards political theatrics.

And I guarantee Ford will win any weird theatrics battle, which makes it extra entertaining.
