Happy Tartan Day! Here's some detail on how I reinforce the strap opening. After pressing the kilt I'll open the hole.

The next kilt is well underway. Scott red muted. I love sewing the pleats! I can just turn off my brain and work. This kilt is for one of my kids. Scott is our clan.

Sewing pleats is so meditative, but I need to occupy my mind. Today I'm listening to the Les Misérable audio book. In which Jean Val-Jean makes like a ninja turtle and carries Marius through the sewers of Paris.

After 2 months of machine sewing quilts, my sewing calluses have softened up. Just hand stitching the fringe really woke up my fingers! But it's good to be back to making kilts. A much more meditative practice. The front apron is finished and the pleats are set up and marked on this Duncan tartan.

I love the smell of tartan in the evening! Just got new tartan in from The House of Edgar.
The Lost Tartan, from their brand new Tartan Genesis Collection, featuring a selvage with a chevron weave. This is an historical way to weave the selvage, but it's only been available on custom weaves.

Sneak peek at a big upcoming project. A pipe band needs new kilts, their tartan is unwoven (not stocked by the mills), so it needs to be custom woven. Using Marton Mills to make it happen!

Temporary break from kilt making to help my wife with a quilt. We have 2 quilts to finish before Christmas and I need my sewing room back. 😜 The kilt I want to get finished is sitting patiently in the background.
