Christian nationalists are trying to manufacture consent to ban abortion. Given the trajectory of reactionaries in this country, they might invoke the notwithstanding clause to do it. Help us stop them www.bchumanist.ca/join

Looks like Fraser Health saw our press release and have updated their social media and website messaging to remove mention of the crisis pregnancy centre. There's no public word on this yet though, so we'll keep investigating this.

A recent Pew survey showed that many nonreligious people believe in the afterlife, spirituality and even god. As our members put it, the survey didn't ask about values or morality, so we can't say how many of the world's nonreligious people align with humanism.

For centuries, governments have assumed that religion is a social good. The corollary to which is that atheism (and humanism) is a social ill.

We challenge this idea and made it clear that you don't need to believe in a god to be a good person. Now we've making progress in modernizing Canadian law.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Today is also World Humanist Day and National Indigenous Peoples Day.

We'll be celebrating with some of our members at Burnaby Village Museum today but wherever you are, take a moment to reflect on your connections to humanity and the lands you live on.

We have an editorial in today's Calgary Herald comparing Alberta's recent talk of reviewing school materials to unconstitutional efforts to ban books in Surrey over 25 years ago. Read it here: www.pressreader.com/canada/calga...

Christian nationalists want Canada to become the 51st state and yet their churches still give tax receipts for donations. It's time to end the automatic presumption that religion is a public benefit. Email your MP today: www.bchumanist.ca/religion_cha...

In Canada, the state has a constitutional duty of religious neutrality and yet during today's Speech from the Throne King Charles III ended with saying to all Parliamentarians "may God bless and guide you."

At least one-third of Canadians are non-religious. Keep our government secular.

Today (March 31) is Transgender Day of Visibility. Amid the rising transphobia around the world, it's more important than ever that we loudly remind our policymakers that trans rights are human rights. #TDOV

Catholic Schools in British Columbia receive over $100 million annually from the provincial government. And now BC Bishops are reminding those schools that they "are a most valuable resource for the evangelization of culture."

We don't believe the public should be funding sectarian proselytization.

Today we celebrate International Women's Day by imagining a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge gender equality. #IWD2025
