On Desktop, I'd recommend Bazzite or CachyOS, or even really outright Arch, Fedora, and Ubuntu.

SteamOS is focused on handheld right now, but in general, I would say that SteamOS' real advantage is in being a slow, stable OS (as in it doesn't need updates often) that is focused on Gaming.

More to the point, bootc technology is only now starting to work on Arch (might be wrong) and Debian. The technology just didn't exist before, so you had to maintain a distro.

ublue-os wants to focus on apps so that it becomes standard that you install and you can just focus on your apps/gaming.

The aim of Universal Blue as a whole is to be "distroless". They do not want to maintain a distro, their focus is apps and end-user experience, using cloud-native technology as the backbone of it and Fedora as the guts, because they have been stable and up-to-date.

Different sets of expertise, legacy, aim, and level of stability. Effort to make ARM work *at all* is very different from effort to keep the 32-bit compatibility going once it's not supported by upstream.

Here is the thing: people have brought up RPMFusion to maintain them. They refuse. They won't and *can't*, the burden is too much even for them.

Bazzite, and the rest of ublue-os, is not a distro. They make a point of working with upstream and just offer an image so people can focus on apps.

That shouldn't be how it is. At least in a normal KDE session in Bazzite on ROG Ally, I don't see the mouse when I tap or drag. I do have the Show Touch desktop effect turned on, which shows that they do know when it is a touch event (the behaviour on separate components shows it too).

I need notifications support and link opening support. Without those, I might as well use the official clients.

Though, I would have tolerated both if it was open sourced. I tolerate a lot if something is FOSS.

Theoretically? Forever, with containers and open-source. I still use mcomix to read my manga and it is *old*. But it is so good that eventually people picked it up from Sourceforge and put it on other platforms, so I can just install it from Flathub and it just works.

I'd love it if everything could be WASM and a Web App, so I could install it through my browser for all platforms, but that's at least 5 years away.

And I'd imagine Adobe would be the main pusher for it, given it is the most cost effective way of combating piracy and supporting all OS.

I've seen one myself. And I've opened my Bazzite ROG Ally on a train myself. The Steam Game Mode makes it work great, haha.

I mean, if it works for you, that's great. Last month, I tried it again, and it doesn't seem to read my Formatted Table correctly - doesn't show the column name at the top, at least. That's a no go from me. Plus, the rendering is just bad.
