My grandmother (born 1934) and everyone I knew’s grandmother used both words. 45ish years ago. But that was down the bay, not on the peninsula. So it seems it was regional.

My BF’s mom made us chicken with fries, dressing & gravy ever Saturday afternoon.
Which I still don’t know how to make (I moved away as a teenager) and it makes me sad I never learned since my mom & nan passed years ago.
I adore “stuffing” but I miss “dressing”

I’d absolutely believe it’s by region. All bonavista bay uses the two terms separately but I don’t know about Avalon or St. John’s

I would assume it’s the same reason English speaking people call Germany Germany and not Deutschland, etc.
We use English names for lots of countries that use a different word in their language to refer to themselves.

When I grew up in Newfoundland stuffing was the moist version that was inside the turkey and dressing was the drier, finer crumb texture made outside the turkey and used for cold plates.

As someone whose been trapped under a blanket by 2 physics laws-breaking 400lb cat-weights, I’ve only had to commit this crime a few times over the past decade, but it’s the nuclear option and I keep a separate, secret churu stash for such eventualities

Yeah I’ve never served but I do know that the plans/instructions given to generals is a lot different than what the boots on the ground get.
If Gen Chickenhawk says “well Venezuelan troops fired on our ships so now we’re attacking back” how would a reg soldier know any different?

There’s a WHOLE lot of grey area between *illegal* and *immoral* orders. that’s what bothers me. At what level in the command structure does it become clear it’s not just immoral but illegal?

private practice is going to siphon doctors out of public service because they can make so much more money which will just compound the problem exponentially.

If theres 100 surgeons doing surgeries & 25 of them chose to do private practice, even if they are forced to do a certain # of publicly funded surgeries, that still takes them out of public service a large portion of time.
It only decreases wait time for the wealthy, which apparently is the goal 🤕
