Here in The Netherlands privatization of the Postal Service as well as the Train service happened decades ago, in the wake of Thatcher/Reagan.

The idea that these organisations would work more efficient if they were companies, led to overly expensive public transport and post delivery.

Fortunately, it's not the American people as such, who's standing has plummeted. However, as a country the damage will be done for decades. To kill long standing alliances this way portrays the US as deeply, deeply unreliable.
