Despite biking to Paris, we opted to explore the city on foot and via transit. I was amazed how quiet Paris was. Not due to a lack of people, just a lack of cars, compared to North American cities. It was so much nicer than I expected.

Also, freedom from traffic, parking hassles, and expensive and time consuming maintenance. Freedom to meet and talk with others you encounter while biking.

And they're right. Quality, people-focused infrastructure makes a huge difference. Bike lanes is part of that.

What you're describing is culture. New York has a different transportation culture than other US cities.

Subsidizing parking transfers money from non-drivers to drivers. It's not fair, and it's a poor investment. I agree with you that we should be improving the bus services. I think the OP does, too.
