Things Silksong succeeds at that people don't talk about:

1. Keys are rare and exciting

2. Gibberish voices with more personality/nuance than any other game

3. money is a resource that actually matters

4. Multiple diagetic fast travel systems

5. Hornet has a full Smash Bros. moveset ready to go

Finally replaced one of the last gameplay placeholders in Royalty Free For All.

Coded Oliver Twist's radial recovery like 6 months ago, plopped in a 'draw_circle()', then we all kinda forgot about it lol.

Now draws a thicker, palette-swapping circle to match the vine, even added leaves <3

Just got home from PAX West. Forgot how much fun it is to watch folks try Royalty Free For All for the first time, and even more fun to see returning faces from last year.

Really happy with how far the gameplay's come :)

I'm thinking this is about as deep as I need the faux 3D first person to go. Next is to do some dithering at the farthest layer so squares popping in as you move feel a little less jarring #gamedev

I think I've finally got the faux-3D first perspective I'm going for, so it's finally time to start adding the deeper layers (you'll be able to see 2 or 3 more tiles 'deep').

Once I added walking, I think the illusion really started to work.

In my long quest to crate the blobber of my dreams, I finally figured out enough about basic perspective to make a tileset that extends more than 3 blocks!

I come back to this kind of project every couple of months as I continue to learn, and it's starting to feel possible! #gamedev

That is what I thought it would be, but it's not! When I just follow two vanishing points, this distortion ends up happening, where the cubes get wider and wider the further back I go (1st image).

I had to use a third vanishing point in the center to place the lines correctly (2nd image).

#gamedev, you do not comprehend how long it took to wrap my head around 3 point perspective well enough to give this 2nd image proper proportions...

I have finally done pixeled a (mostly) dungeon crawler grid with a perspective correct rotation frame!

(don't you dare remind me 3D games exist)
