Music historian, author of "History in Mighty Sounds" and a perenially half-written study of music in monasteries and nunneries around 1600. Loves country walks, reading, sightseeing, archaeology.
In the 19th century, there were complaints about all-male choir concerts as being too samey and comparing negatively with mixed choirs. But of course back then the expectation would have been for concerts to offer a good variety of instrumental and vocal music in different formats.

People being concerned that their livelihood will be taken away from them. Bizarre indeed.

Some universities being "encouraged" to move to teaching only = concentration of research funding in a few big providers.

The fact that it should be ok to "love racism" should ring the alarm bells.

The rationale for making private schools (or rather, families) pay VAT was that the money would be invested straight away into state schools. This is clearly not happening. "We'll tax X to fund Y" is not how fiscal budgeting works, it just sounds nice to the electorate.

The recent news from Cardiff and Nottingham suggest that even EG universities are now feeling the pinch (after recruiting to the detriment of other universities for years).

Unique how? Many countries consider higher education a public good (i.e. no or negligible fees, state bursaries). Actually, the commercialised universities of the US and UK might be outliers internationally.

If successive governments hadn't forced universities to rely on international student fees, China wouldn't feel entitled to meddle. If you are serious about freedom of research, fund universities properly.

Why is the CoE grappling? They should look to the Catholic and Lutheran churches in Germany, where it's a hard "no" against appropriation from AfD and friends.

Lumping them together as “AI” gives readers the impression that a single class of tool is discerning novel protein structures, teasing subtle patterns out of mountains of LHC data, writing a student’s History 101 paper, and arguing a ketamine-addled billionaire could post up Shaq in his prime. No.

I enjoy watching the dances, so time well spent.

Why just contrition and an apology? Are such "jokes" not a hate crime?

Vicky is 38, Balvinder 46. Not a huge age gap.
