I get that the news cycle is packed right now, but I just heard from a colleague at the Smithsonian that this is fully a GIANT SQUID BEING EATEN BY A SPERM WHALE and it’s possibly the first ever confirmed video according to a friend at NOAA

Thanks to our presenter @baptiste-piguet.bsky.social, PhD student in the @houseleylab.bsky.social, for delivering a session on neurodiversity today. Great primer offering the opportunity to learn and to consider preconceptions and the narrative around neurodiversity.

I was wondering why some systems are far more intelligent than their individual components (for example, a computer vs transistors, a brain vs neurons) while human groups seem, at best, as intelligent as their smartest member. What answers do we have today?

Another one on obesity & epigenetics. Chao et al. show maternal obesity disrupts offspring metabolism via oocyte DNA hypermethylation, regulated by melatonin through the cAMP/PKA/CREB pathway. Melatonin treatment restores balance! 🧪 Read more: https://buff.ly/49vl1Lp @elife.bsky.social
Maternal obesity may disrupt offspring metabolism by inducing oocyte genome hyper-methylation via increased DNMTs
Maternal obesity mouse model reveal that melatonin deficiency causes the genomic hyper-methylation of oocytes via increasing the expression of DNA methyltransferases.
