Yeah, the novella format forces GRRM to be very concise and thematically focused. they are very self contained and usually the only carryover characters are Dunk and Egg. Easily some of his best work is there

Honestly I found the grinding super helpful to actually understand everyone's kits. Walking into a boss not knowing how to play magik properly screwed me more than once

I'd imagine the FF14ers or Helldiver friends you'd have would love seeing interact with the new shit. But then I think you'd worry you "Dragged to High Rank without learning in MonHun" yourself. I think this is a thing you just have to bite the bullet on
