What kind of monitoring you are looking for? Check out UniFi protect. It has advantage of fully local network recording and alerts. Most of cameras PoE only but that more secure, although might be hard to retrofit into house

Major means breaking change. It’s a signal for users that they need to allocate time for upgrade. Minor should not require any extra work for older code. Patch is just a patch - nothing new in it
