My paintings etc. Camb Drawing Soc twice a year since 1983. Lots of gallery shows in the past but a little disinvolved now owing to age. Occasional low-price studio sales to visitors. My urban garden is a wildlife haven.
Flower girls with piper, a fairly large mixed media painting/drawing from 2009 (the location is Senate House Passage, Cambridge). Sold.

Ah, yes it is lovely. It's a Malus (crab apple) but I've forgotten the exact name. Beautiful masses of pink flowers turning into small berries that the birds and squirrels love.

Garden oil painting in progress 10 years ago (this one was only worked on a little after this photo and it found a buyer)

A quite large oil on canvas portrait of Lorna from 1991. This one is stored away rolled up with other canvases but I just spotted a photo of it on my camera rolll. She was a frequent and very patient sitter for portraits when she lived nearby and has several of them (more available!)

A large watercolour painted in a garden in the village of Eltisley, South Cambs in 2013. I still have this in a portfolio where it will probably stay because I can't frame large items under glass anymore. Quite pleased with it though.

Sisters, Indian ink and wash drawing from the '80s. I did many portraits of these two family friends and their mother when they lived nearby. The rather macabre head of a fell fox was a family heirloom and it went back to Scotland where it was sold at auction.

This oil on canvas painted at the end of the garden went through various phases. It looks interesting at this stage but went on to get stodgy and overworked. I have it in mind to attack this one again when the weather gets warmer. It's taking up space so it's that or maybe chuck it.

That's lovely! Here's another watercolour from a slightly different vantage point (1994). Both of these were sold.

Another older watercolour drawing showing St Edward's Passage in Cambridge next to the Arts Theatre and David's Bookshop when it had a shop on that side of the church (now it only has one on the other side)

An older watercolour drawing from when I used to make frequent trips to sketch in London. This shows the Embankment with lots of pigeons, a pavement artist and a couple of Japanese young women on one of the benches. This was sold at an exhibition.

the pandemic struck. I'm not particularly good but can just about keep up. Several of the fiddles have been in paintings
November 19, 2025 at 3:55 PM
I dug out a lot of my fiddles and a mandola as a friend was visiting yesterday to play some tunes. He likes fiddles so he examined them with interest. None of these are particularly special but the two on the left are OK. I used to play in Irish sessions and for Scottish dancing but gave up when/...

Thank you Maggie! I'm not sure what the lovely earthenware animal is but I grabbed it when I saw it. I think it's an Indian cow of some kind, maybe an umblacherry (I did an image search). We've had the tie-die cloth for ages so I can't really remember where it came from - it is very lovely!

An oil still life experimenting with brighter colour. All of these objects came from charity shops along the street near where I live, including the tie-dye cloth. The jug seems to be from the '20s (a survivor). The painting is still in the studio hanging on the wall.

She was about 12 I think and suddenly she couldn't walk in a straight line and kept falling over. The vet said it was probably a tumour and advised that she should be put down so I made a fuss of her while that was done then took her away and buried her in the garden.

A life of reading books arms you against modern disinformation and shifting agendas. I rarely read a book printed this century. This is just a glimpse at the my book clutter. AI can take a running jump.

Here is another flower painting/drawing from 2017, featuring our cat Millie who appeared in quite a few artworks. I'm afraid she is no longer with us (age-related illness)

I produce flower paintings every year but it's dim and dismal out there with pouring rain and very little subject matter. Taking a look back at photos of some older work in progress from a decade ago

A few pastels taken out of storage and laid out on a table when having a sort-out a while ago (and then bundled up and put away again with all the others). I have a lot of work stored away.
