You're very welcome! ^^

One final tip btw, if you didn't already know about it: since you now have both a Bluesky and a Mastodon account, and (i assume) you also post to galleries like FA, you might find www.postybirb.com helpful. It'll help automate the process of uploading your art everywhere! :)

Meow is significantly more active (about 6x more) but that really only matters for the live feeds section. Those should be good choices either way tho! ^.=.^

So whatever instance you land on, if (and only if) you can afford to do so, it's not a bad idea to consider donating toward server costs from time to time. But yeah, socel is a decent choice. You'll still be able to follow anyone you want, just the live feeds section will have less furry content.

I follow one or two people over there. It seems to be a decently run instance! Though I will say that finances for almost any Mastodon instance can be a potential issue, because most Mastodon instances are being run by one person or a small group of people as a community benefit, not a big company.

Happy to help!! I'm a massive nerd for this stuff so I apologize if I'm overwhelming with details, but I hope this helps you have a comfy experience on Mastodon! And please feel free to ask if you have any other questions, either here or over there! ^.=.^

biggest furry ones are meow.social, bark.lgbt, and tech.lgbt. All three have good moderation and have rules requiring CWs for NSFW stuff - and their "Live feeds" should be quite busy with interesting content to discover too! If those aren't your jam, that furry fediverse site has other options.

This instance is focused around the furry fandom and is open to all fluffies and scalies!

But yeah, otherwise it's kind of like how adult content is handled here - you'll want to filter it out if you don't wanna see it. But filters like that will let you join any instance you like while still being able to curate what you see in your timeline. As for instance choices - some of the >>

My NSFW filter on my main account is set up with these settings, and it catches nearly all NSFW content. This should be a good starting point for you! If you use this & don't want to see any of the NSFW content warnings in your feed *at all*, simply change the "Filter action" to "Hide completely".

system, which you can set up to hide NSFW content from your feed completely.

*any* reason you'd like! Not all instances require their users to use CWs, but there's a general expectation (especially among the furry instances) to use them for adult/nsfw content, at minimum. CW'd posts are hidden with a warning by default. Mastodon also has a powerful and flexible filtering >>

No apologies necessary! I totally understand about wanting to limit NSFW content. So Mastodon has a content warning system similar to Bsky - except instead of choosing pre-made categories like you do here, it's an open field that you can type anything into. That lets you add a CW to a post for >>

Despite that, it's still not a bad place to learn the basics of how Fedi works, and if you decide you like it there, don't feel pressured to move. Other resources you might find useful: fedi.tips has lots of tips & guides on how Fedi works, and furryfediverse.org is a directory of furry instances.

around, you may want to consider moving away from mastodon.art to a furry-owned instance. It's a long drama-filled story, but tl;dr they have a habit of blocking/defederating furry-owned instances over disagreements with moderation decisions and that may limit your reach to furry audiences. >>

It's awesome that you're checking out the Fediverse!! I ditched Twitter for Mastodon a few years back and it's been my primary social media ever since, and I've really enjoyed it there. One thing to know, though: once you're done exploring what the Fediverse can offer, if you decide to stick >>

Fedi are so *wildly* different from my own. :(

Sorry for the rant, I do appreciate your insight... just... yeah. Frustrated. :( [5/5]

has all of like 300 total users on it. I'm on social media to be social, not shout into the void - but that's what my Bsky experience has felt like, and it's maddening and depressing that not only can I not seem to find the same enjoyment y'all get out of it, but that y'all's experiences with [4/5]

Bluesky to a T. Lots of content, sure, but very, very little interaction from followers or even to replies, no matter whether I was posting directly from this native bsky backup account or from my main account bridged over from Mastodon. And I'm not even on that big of an instance - Dragonchat [3/5]

Twitter over 3 years ago now and haven't run into any of these sorts of issues - aside from maybe the mastodon.art instance, but... that's the *bad* place. And rogue admins are a possibility, yeah, but from what I've seen it's quite uncommon. But you say Fedi isn't fun, when for me, that fits [2/5]

(Responding from my alt since it looks like you're not bridged)

I gotta tell you, this is one of the most frustrating things I keep hearing, because it makes me wish I knew what I was doing different and how others could replicate my experience. I've been on the same instance since I ditched [1/5]
