I would normally call someone saying this a loser, a whiner and a crybaby. But you’re not even American, you don’t understand how our elections work or what role the federal government plays in them, why should I care what you think?

Peel off even 10% of them and it’s electoral collapse

The fact that working class people of color have been displaced from desirable cities is part of why “housing costs have risen but are still proportional to income” in a lot of those places. San Francisco is a really good example of this phenomenon.

Duh. Employment prospects are literally the most important characteristic of any location unless you’re a child, retired, or independently wealthy.

California is home to about a third of the country’s homeless population, you can’t just hand wave the homeless crisis here because the housed people are disproportionately rich.

If suburban/exurban car dependent life is truly so overwhelmingly preferred, how come that built environment needs to be legally mandated in like 98% of the country? Why is space in dense walkable areas in such high demand relative to its supply if it’s so obviously inferior to most people?

Everybody says that but there is a revealed preference for thinner futuristic looking devices, to a point. Pocket feel is important and as long as you can get through a day on a charge it doesn’t matter for most people.

I can tell you from personal experience that high cost of living in the Bay Area has begun to cannibalize entry level positions in tech. It’s not worth it to pay new grads cost of living to be here, even if somebody who’s established can “proportionally” afford a multi million dollar starter home.

You should check the birth rates in those countries people immigrate from. As those places experience rising living standards and more people get more educated, they experience the same fertility trends everyone else does. It’s actually pretty racist to assume otherwise.

Yeah but we’re not talking about national numbers here specifically, we’re talking about “certain metros” that for many career paths are kinda non negotiable for people trying to get established.
November 18, 2025 at 9:31 PM
It’s bad that that huge rises in median income are captured by landlords and realtors in booming metros, even if the proportion stays constant. It’s dead weight.

Maybe I’m crazy but I would presume Will Stancil is fairly YIMBY pilled so these takes on housing affordability drive me fucking crazy. It’s a pretty serious problem if housing is unobtainable to most people in the metros where basically all our wealth creation is happening!

Headphones with USB plug exist. The audio jack is outdated, mechanically terrible, and huge. It would create a limiting factor on how thin phones can be.

He technically did say earlier in the thread that there is a crisis in “certain metros.” Kind of important if those certain metros represent like half of economic growth and give young professionals their best shot at a career.
