Animator and filmmaker Shickley, who interned for us while a student at Burien's Big Picture High School. is currently working on an animated film built around rarely heard recordings by the late comedy legend Hartman, combining archival audio with a wide range of animation techniques.

Large Douglas Fir trees at Economy Wiring in Burien Economy Wiring in Burien announced this week that it will not hold its annual holiday tree lighting this year, following news that King County Fire District #2 can no longer assist with installing lights on the event’s large Douglas Fir tree due to safety and equipment concerns. The company said it was saddened to stop this longtime tradition, which has been held at its location at 633 SW 148th Street in early December since 1982, with a break during the COVID pandemic.

The top two candidates in each of Burien’s City Council and other races have emerged after three rounds of ballot counts in the Aug. 5 primary election, with incumbents and political newcomers alike advancing to the Nov. 4 general election. In the Burien City Council Position 1 race, incumbent Hugo Garcia steadily expanded his lead across all three ballot drops. Jessica Ivey, who will join him on the November ballot, also gained momentum as the returns progressed, reinforcing her position in the top two.
