The 35mm Focal Length: Focal February Part Two

Some might argue that the 35mm focal length is the most famous of all. The “35 vs50” war has ranged on for decades, each saying it’s the best, each saying it’s the most diverse and for some reason, each claiming to be the equivalent of the human eye.…

Some might argue that the 35mm focal length is the most famous of all. The “35 vs50” war has ranged on for decades, each saying it’s the best, each saying it’s the most diverse and for some reason, each claiming to be the equivalent of the human eye. I’m not here to add to that, only to show you my favorite photos taken at 35mm. If you’re curious, I’ll be covering 50mm in part four. The 28mm Focal Length: Focal February Part One
Launching my blog theme for the month of February, I am looking at four popular focal lengths, and within them, my favourite photos taken at them. These examples are all within the realm of full frame and can come from either a zoom or a prime lens. I used Lightroom Classic to narrow down the collection of images taken at that length, on each of the digital full frame cameras I have owned over the years, rated 4 or 5 stars. It was a trip going over images that I have not looked at in some cases, in over a decade.

My cousin Jackie’s husband let me know that even though my radio may stay on when I turn off the car it might time out after a few minutes. So as a backup I went to Canadian Tire and bought a small “boom box” plus the cabin air cleaner that was recommended to me by the French mechanic a few weeks ago at Bumper to Bumper.

Table of Contents July 9th, 2025: Day Thirty-Five Days in Hotels VS Campgrounds VS Guest: 13/14/7 I rested today for the most part. My ankle was feeling slightly worse, and I accomplished quite a bit the previous day, so I figured I’d lay low. My Aunt and Uncle needed to run an errand, so I took the opportunity to clean up the laundry room somewhat. They’re in their 70s. Aunt Jody can’t really go downstairs at all, and Uncle Glen can’t bend over much, so there’s some dust bunnies and such and my last load of laundry had some dryer lint.

While I was driving away, I tried to visualize myself a couple years down the road, already having gone back by car or plane, and glad that I had made better plans. I’m exhausted and have seen so much and am not going to get everything in one go so I should probably start picking my final adventures for this trip more carefully.

I got tired fast.

I had a good and much needed sleep, got up, made myself presentable and did some research before I left so I wouldn’t be wandering aimlessly. I decided to make my first stop at the Citadel National Historic Site. Now I’ve been avoiding museums and the like for this trip as I find it gives me a fishbowl feeling. Everything is….sterile.

You know that elusive obvious that occurs sometimes? Yeah, that was me, not even realizing that I would have issues finding parking, navigating the streets with loads of people for the parade, and also limited to what would be open during holiday hours.

I woke up at a decent time but past my alarm. It had been raining most of the night and was coming down pretty good with a healthy dose of fog. This meant converting like a Rubix Cube, that is, leaving everything confined to the car while moving it all around. It takes a little longer.

I knew it would be. I had several errands to run, namely the car's cabin filter, but also food & laundry. First, I headed to Bumper-to-Bumper after saying my goodbyes to the campsite owner and leaving a business card. I lucked out and the mechanic, Matthew, spoke good English and noted my relief. He had a look and put a new filter in.

Here are a list of eight books I read in 2025 related to travel to help inspire me on my cross Canada journey. Most of these had value to take with me while a couple wasted my time. The McCandless Mecca: A Pilgrimage to the Magic Bus of the Stampede Trail By Ken Ilgunas and Josh Spice 4/5 This is probably the shortest book on the list at just 80 pages, and I actually commend the author for this because there’s another book on here that pads out an otherwise simple concept with fluff.

I may keep this briefer than previous entries because I am exhausted. Plus, I have Topper’s Pizza on the way in 26 minutes… 28 minutes sorry. After saying goodbye to my Aunt and Uncle I grabbed a coffee and headed to see my grandfather’s grave. The first issue of the day is when I couldn’t find it. I thought I had the right location, and I didn’t.
