This is way overblown.
First of all it's not the game director that was laid off and this was just a small Seattle-based design studio of like 6 people that was laid off. Over 95% of Marvel Rivals' devs are in China.

The main part that was lacking around launch was the endgame, indeed. I've always found Diablo 4 to have a really amazing story to play through and I think the majority of players will play just that and be satisfied.

D4 does deserve more praise. It just had a rough start in my opinion. But overall it's a solid game and worth the pricetag.
