Fun fact: I’m a dog groomer. One of my coworkers did a big shave down on a dog. We’re all a bit punchy right now from holiday traffic (it starts early for us), so this happened.

Sorry for the radio silence. I’m a dog groomer by day and pre-holiday traffic hit HARD!

I’ll be back to it next week with a blog and newsletter.

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Remembering us is not enough.

Excuse the rant:

I’m a dog groomer by day and a writer by night. This morning, ten minutes into my shift, a dog decided to swing around and bite my lip while I was carrying him. (Don’t worry: I didn’t drop him).

Four stitches on the lip later, and I go to the pharmacy to pick up my pain meds and

I started a new book I picked up from a thrift store.

A German Disney Book Club bookmark slipped out of its pages. Love little surprises!

In 2006 a high school English teacher asked students to write to a famous author & ask for advice.

KURT VONNEGUT - born 103yrs ago today - was the only one to respond.

His reply was a doozy.

Fun Fact: I grew up playing DOS games. They'll always have a special place in my heart, so I (of course) had to write about the unique way DOS graphics impacts storytelling!

I see your Harry Potter and raise you The Tapestry series and Brandon Sanderson.
I’ve seen a few folks go for the “if you simply must watch that new Harry Potter show just pirate it” and sorry. No. Just no. Just don’t watch it. At all. Ever. Break free of it. It’s time. You’ll be ok. I promise. I know it mattered to you as a kid. Find new things, it’s healthier. Just move on.

Afaik, they don't have a public stance on GenAI in VO. *BUT*, their official Discord bans GenAI, and the game dialogue makes a few occasional jabs at GenAI "art."

And still a beautiful open-world gacha!

I’m rereading the Sir Callie books before starting the last one.

I’m excited to sink my teeth into it, but there’s a sense of sadness… it’s THE LAST ONE.

If you haven’t already, pick up Sir Callie! You won’t regret it!

I reworked an old article that I wrote for my OG travel blog back in the day.

Zoos and accreditations are near and dear to my heart. Researching and writing this article remains one of my favorite pieces I ever wrote.

To sum up this thread, given recent events in the Chicagoland area due to ICE activity, for the safety of all attendees, especially international attendees, I am calling on @furfest.org to ban tactical gear & modern police/military costumes from the con space

That is the least I can ask from MFF
Furries, we need to talk about something very important. With Midwest FurFest just a month away, we need to address the elephant in the room

For the past few months, ICE, Border Patrol, & other federal agents have been storming throughout the Chicago area, where MFF is located (1/5)
new: federal agents have targeted rideshare drivers at o'hare on at least ten separate days since october 10.

in some cases, agents returned to abduct drivers multiple times in a single day, taking as many as ten to 20 people each time.

I’ve been in the planning stages of my next novel. This novel requires a LOT of prep work before I can start writing, but I had a breakthrough at work that would fix a lot of problems!

Inspiration can con from anywhere, even while blowdrying a wiggly dog.

The bones of the land break through the ground,
But no one gathers there.
Yet when the rains drench the soil and run through rivers white,
The grasses grow, the life returns
To the wild mountainside

I really love book illustrations, and the art in “Tales of a Magic Monastery” by Theophane the Monk is particularly lovely.

“Magic Monastery” was a wonderful, contemplative read!
