How about this one...
I’m in the process of finishing my first novel as well, and I’ve been feeling what you are feeling lately. My characters feel less like people and more like objects to move the plot along. It can be hard to find that perfect balance sometimes. But I’m sure we’ll be happy with our work in the end.
