The Eagles loss to Denver was the firmest evidence I have ever seen that the league fixes some games. The calls were so insane, so one-sided, that even national commentators felt they had to mention them.

I’m more angry about the Cowboys game. It now seems likely that Carter was hurt in the Bears game, which is why they were able to run through the Eagles.

I thought people who grew up in NE Philadelphia (Somerton represent!) learned to lower their expectations?

This is a very fair point. But isn’t that obviously on Saquon, the injured line, and Stoutland, not Petullo and Sirianni?

The joke being that “Happy Days” was situated in Milwaukee, a city where none of these hipsters would dare live. Most of the family shows of the fifties occurred in midwestern and Southern towns. The one exception, the Honeymooners, featured a childless couple living in an apartment in Bensonhurst.

Great post. I wish these folks would read a book from the period they’re describing rather than relying on some dimly recalled collective memory derived from episodes of “Happy Days.”

At least, they‘d know that post-war Americans lived in places like Cleveland, which are still quite affordable.

Hm. How about somewhere between “none“ and “plenty”? Perhaps “some.” 😜

I just picked a random article from a year ago. None of these problems are new. And yet the Eagles won the SB!

A.J. Brown says Eagles' passing offense was 'absolutely' better after trying week: 'We're not in it for feelings'
It turns out Philadelphia's dramatic week was much ado about nothing, as the Eagles exercised complete control over a formidable Steelers defense thanks to Jalen Hurts passing for 290 yards and A.J. B...

LOLOL. Well played!

It’s weird how everyone has forgotten that 1) AJ also kvetched about the offense in December 2024, and 2) Vegas ranked Eagles +700 to win the SB (5th) at the start of last year‘s playoffs. They’re +1000 and 5th right now.

Everything you wrote brought me joy and laughter.

And yet I still can’t help wonder if the problem is simply 1) injuries to the offensive line, 2) the schedule.

Omg, Heather. You’re making me swoon!

And let us never forget that Vance applauded this cruel vileness.

This is all an artifact of their opponents.

The Eagles have faced the #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, and #11 ranked teams in defensive DVOA, going 5-1 in those games. They’ve played the #1, #3, #4, #5, and #7 (twice) ranked teams in offensive DVOA. They’ve gone 5-1 those games.

Younger Eagles fans are like the Imperial Sardaukar after being crushed by the Fremen. They had forgotten what it was like to lose!

As someone whose dad had season tickets in the 1970s, I am insulated from this particular sense of despair.

I keep thinking of this, but without the suggested violence.
