EXACTLY and i wish people would have more fun with the grey area between Irredeemable Monster and Person Who Did Nothing Wrong, because they seem obsessed with putting everyone into one camp or the other

he doesn't want anyone to be upset with him. he doesn't want the crew's pay to be affected. there's nowhere to lock jimmy up. they certainly can't dispose of jimmy. he was stuck between a rock and a hard place and before he could act, jimmy crashed the ship. IT ALL SUCKS !!

because yes there Are selfish reasons, among them the uncertainty of how it might affect his commendation and how jimmy might react (because curly knows as well as anyone that he's volatile). BUT ALSO... he's just HUMAN and from what we can see, the man had maybe 24 hours to figure out what to do

there are many reasons why curly might not have acted 'properly' after learning about what jimmy did, and i think it's more fascinating to consider those narratively than simply dismiss him as an evil SA apologist who only cares about jimmy/himself

curly isn't a paragon of virtue and i'm not here to defend him because OBVIOUSLY he fucked up, but some people are more invested in dragging him to jimmy's level and viewing his every action through the lens of malicious for reasons i can't begin to comprehend. why do you need him to be EVIL?
