I feel like teachers should at least be asking us whether or not we want that shared with the class or no.

But I would think it’s up to me whether or not I want to personally share that, and it’s not up to others to do that for me?!?

When I'm on my meds, I feel a lot less impulsive, and I'm more likely to stay focused on one thing for longer periods of time.

But the initial process of starting a task is different, and so now I can't rely on impulsively wanting to do it.

It's like, I have to intentionally plan it.

The only thing I can think of in terms of unexpected consequences with my ADHD diagnosis is understanding how to manage my day when I'm on meds.

Because, for example, I feel like before, I only managed to get my chores done when I impulsively felt like it.

And that was a gamble.

As for my ADHD diagnosis, that definitely made a significant difference for me after receiving the formal diagnosis.

I wasn't really prepared for how much of a difference my medication would make.

It just feels like it's a lot easier to exist in the world now.

After graduating high school, I had a lot more trouble trying to access any kind of substantial accommodations for my autism.

So, since I've been really unable to GET any kind of formal accommodations post high school, I'm not sure how much of a difference that diagnosis has made.

Did you also have trouble with those people not respecting your time by always being late to appointments with you?

I had a disability advisor of some sorts in community college who was sometimes a full hour late for our sessions.

So I stopped showing up.

They didn't help anyways.

Whether or not I got my homework done depended on whether or not someone decided to sit nearby and get their cellphone out and have a long chat with someone.

If someone talks on a phone when I'm in the room, I have to find another room.

This can be repetitive.

I did a lot better in community college where there were SUPER QUIET loundes, but university didn't seem to have those at all.

And sometimes I had to keep going from place to place trying to find a quiet spot.

I think one of the things they suggested was to use an audio recorder, but that really never worked for me.

That just meant spending extra time transcribing the lectures to notes, and that didn't leave me time to do homework.

It was all very tricky.
