software has spent the last 20 years getting worse by people "utilizing best practices" spewing their garbage idiot code into the world and somehow motherfuckers think the statistical bullshit machine trained on a world of terrible software will magically improve software development are you high

“use carefully designed, wide events and include the reason in the event” 💯

This is best accomplished by storing operational data denormalized. With large, fast-moving teams, multiple table ownership and design sprawls, and denormalizing on CDC is a pain. No joins on operational reads!

Finally dug into @opentelemetry and was really happy with how easy it was to integrate with our existing Prometheus-instrumented app 🙏 https://austince.github.io/blog/using-otel-with-prometheus-global-registry

Rounded up some of the tech communities that have helped me most in my recent work and where they hang out.

Things I love about them:
* They are close to my problems (read: pain)
* Meetings + open agendas
* Vibes 🥰

There's been a lot of talk around control plane APIs; I'd like to jump in + kick off a blog! 🦘

My first couple posts are on identifiers in APIs, who should provide them, and why they matter.

tldr in thread — let me know what you think!...

Been trying out GitHub Co-pilot. Pretty cool, IP debates aside, though it keeps completing my name to "Austin Coding Experience" — is this rebrand my destiny?

Happy to announce @immerokcom, the company I've co-founded with so many other great and talented people. Together, we're building the best cloud offering for @ApacheFlink that gives data teams and their apps the experience they deserve. https://www.immerok.com/
