Pollinators are the life blood of nature. I dared to let my 3-4 acre lawn grow a decade or so ago. Now it's covered with wild flowers and grasses teaming with life. Don't forget that milkweed for our monarchs!

I've always been impressed with just how intelligent Blue jays are ... their social interaction is complex and the wide variety and number of distinct Blue jay vocalizations amazes me. It's down right entertaining to watch these characters work - by the way - they just love peanuts!

Sugar Tyme Crabapple (Malus \'Sutyzam) ... a great addition to your yard. Beautiful fragrant blooms in the spring attract a parade of pollinators and orioles in the spring. The birds feast on the fruit in the fall and winter - ruffed grouse and pine grosbeaks in my neck of the Northwoods.

Yes - wild birds are a fabulous resource and fun to watch. We can learn a great deal about the natural world from birds. I'm looking forward to arrival of my favorite bird here in the Northwoods ... Myiarchus crinitus - tyrant of the canopy!
