My oldest kid saw one yesterday and was not impressed. Over here, kids are on week 5 of 10 for their summer break, so it's not even half-way done yet.

Ranma was the first anime I watched and enjoyed that I knew was anime. I was watching Astroboy before I even started school though.

And that is pretty much most of Western society in a nutshell. We're super ok with murder, guns, bombs, and violence in general, but sex is somehow worse.

My youngest is 12 and he gets super uncomfortable if a movie has a sex scene, even if it isn't explicit. My partner will fast forward through it, but I always ask him why he's so comfortable watching a horrible, gory murder, but two people kissing and softly moaning with no nudity is to much.

Anyway, I only finally put all this together while writing the first two posts. It's nice to have an explanation for why our memories were so vivid and exact while somehow not falling in the right year.

Though a Facebook memory I had yesterday has finally explained what happened. While we left Montréal in early May of 2009, we went back 16 years ago yesterday because I had a job interview in Montréal for a job in Québec City 16 years ago today. We stayed with my aunt and uncle again.

We both remember being in the kitchen, having breakfast, getting ready to go look at apartments, and hearing about his death on the radio. The whole thing is like some fucked up two-person Mandela effect.

I only played Demon's Souls. It was alright, but I got it the same year my first kid was born. You cannot pause the game. I went to check on my kid a couple times cuz he was crying and came back to the death screen. So I said "fuck this bullshit" and basically never played it again.

It basically all comes down to "I'm 44 years old. I don't have time for this shit."
Does the game tell a compelling story? Is it fun? Will it give me a sense of accomplishment when I succeed at it? Is there a reasonable balance between these things and the time I need to put into it?

I'm less strict with challenging, soulslike, and hardcore, but they're definitely knocks against the game from the get-go. I'd throw "roguelike" in with those as well.

Yup. I have no interest in playing a game for fun against folks who play tens of hours a week and will call me various slurs. There is 0 appeal in that experience.
