Like most migrants my previous home became too caustic and dangerous for my safety.
I generally add some mustard to that milk bath.

A month ago I was still gathering fruits and veggies from my unheated greenhouse, and some cold weather crops from my raised beds. Now I’m sitting in frozen knee deep winter wonderland dreaming of freshly picked produce. Enjoy your bounty.

There are different types, but the pepper pastes indigenous to Peru are very mild almost sweet to medium hot with complex undertones. One I make uses aji Amarillo and the other uses ají panca. Chicken with green sauce is also very Peruvian and now I’m hungry.

In large swaths of the world stews are served with rice. First time I tried it I fell in love. I make a few different types of Peruvian chicken stew and even though they have potatoes (it’s Peru of course it has potatoes) I always serve them in a bowl next to a mound of rice.

Looks good! I’ve made this with ground turkey. It’s hard to find (in my rural white area) holy basil, and my husband is not a fan of Thai basil, so I just use the Italian stuff. It’s still delicious, but I also double the sauce. I froze some beans specifically for this dish.

I have zero sympathy for people who voted for this crap.

My peach tree provides me with an over abundance every year. We can peach halves, slices and juice. The halves and slices get used as muffins or coffee cakes, or added into morning oatmeal and salads. I canned 80 quarts of them this year.

Healthcare being for profit (thanks fucking republicans) is why healthcare costs are soaring. No one should invest in withholding heathcare. Having stocks in any heathcare is betting your sick neighbor won’t be able to access it so you’ll earn money. Stockholders are shitty people.

I wish he’d take the long sleep.

Our Julian would do that. Makes me miss him all the more. He passed on thanksgiving 15 years ago, so we always talk about his funny antics while eating dinner. He was the most lovable.

I’ve seen that. It’s another option. My towers are 2x4 welded wire. I used hay to contain the compost, and between layers of spuds.

I had an over abundance of broccoli and cauliflower starts this year, so planted them in the same type tower. The heads were about the size of sm grapefruit. It’s fun

I grow/raise most of what we eat. My husband was complaining to his coworkers about spending $100 at the grocery store one week. They laughed at him. When they told him what they spend he was shocked. I told him to bow down and thank his smart wife for her hard earned food, and to stop complaining.

I’ve had this happen. My response was “I’m sorry you’re not able to multitask, I can keep an eye on multiple things at one time.”

I honestly wonder how they handle everyday life, and I hope they aren’t parents.

Lots of compost and watered daily. Not a quick watering either. I let it drizzle until the hay got totally soaked. I think next year I’m going to run a soaker hose throughout. It was my first time, so I read other people’s issues and tried to combat them in advance. Inground I have bug issues.

I grew mine in towers this year. I didn’t get as much as in ground, but the condition of the finale harvest was far superior. Does require more monitoring of water, takes longer to plant, but no hilling, no weeding, digging and oddly no bugs. Just water daily. Got maybe 40lbs per tower.

We bought the cranberries, stuffing bread, cheeses and prosciutto. The homemade cheesecake is the most expensive item, but the 2 different cherry topping are from my trees. I part my turkeys when processing, so 1 turkey boob gets thawed the day before, and prep is minimal. I like tasty easy.

My blood sugar just jumped reading that. 😂

We don’t do the big gatherings. I cook for just us. Since my older son moved back near us it’ll be 4 at our table. Turkey roulade filled with stuffing and wrapped with prosciutto. Potatoes, gravy, cheesy veggie, sprouts and cranberry. I raised most of it.

My mom told me being a chef was a man’s job. Weird because she did all the cooking. I’m a really good cook. I love reading recipes for ideas, but I like to do my own thing when I make food.

Someone just stopped at our farm to inform me my goats were in the road. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I wonder whose goats they are? Have they been out this whole time, or did they escape again? Now I have so many questions. I only saw 1, but the concerned person said goats. How many are there?

lol. Ghost carrots. Too funny.

Im in the states. I’m a diabetic, so I avoid adding any sweetener plus I find them sweet enough. They grill up nice too. I grew up eating all kinds of wild harvested foods. Weeds to some. I raise or harvest most of what we eat, and am food adventurous. My husband tried many new things since we met.

Only if I know absolutely that the owner of that small shop is not a magat.

I love parsnips. People don’t realize they grow in the wild. I’ve never planted them, but I tag spots on my farm that have them, and then badger my husband to dig them up when we want some. I love them in stew (which I’m making today), but my favorite is fried in butter. So yum.
