It’s Design Matters Tokyo 2025! It’s cool to be back for an annual injection of new ideas and perspectives from the design world.

And I’ve already enjoyed some great conversations.

With the virtual camera photos in the experience, scanning your ticket QR code once you’re done gives you instant access to them. 📷

Here's me with the XR Tokyo event team.

The fact you can share the experience with friends really makes it as you explore and play catch with moon rocks. And of course, we geeked out over the tech behind it all too.

The whole experience is really nicely done. Avatar photos at check-in, smooth transition from MR→VR walking to the rocket, boarding, lift-off… and you have a virtual camera!

Even the management of your time allowance is a seamless part of the experience.

Yesterday I visited Space Travelium TeNQ courtesy of STYLY to see The Moon Cruise experience they created for installation there. 🌒

It’s free roaming #VR, and so well designed and executed. Absolutely one of my all time favourite #XR experiences. Highly recommended!🧵

Both Genie 3 and Hunyuan’s GameCraft are opening the door for a potential metaverse more than anything we’ve seen so far.

The ability for anyone to easily create compelling personalised worlds will amplify the draw to consumer #XR. Any "metaverse" adoption will be #AI driven.

It's holodeck tech.

Back at TOKYO NODE LAB tonight, this time getting to use their Volumetric Video Studio as part of their resource offerings for their #XR hackathon.

Getting access to this kind of setup is insane.

PSA: This analogy doesn’t scale to days, weeks or months at all. But it’s great for procrastination. 😆

I know many of you can relate to that in one way or another.

Being the only one in a Figma team and having a notification come up that your library components have an update is like something from a horror movie.

Who is in here with me!?

Walking around Asakusa at night there are so many strange and liminal spaces to get lost in.

This abandoned love hotel stands out, shrouded in glass but in total darkness, the entrance blocked off with cones and the prices on the outside each covered with a single strip of tape.
