This photo looks just like the first time I ever saw one, coming out of the mist straight toward my girlfriend and I on Vashon Island just as the Liberty Caps we'd picked in the pasture/grove were starting to kick in. Neither of us knew such beasts existed til then. A very memorable experience.

My understanding is that it's always been between the cooperative Gaelic protestants the British colonizers relocated from Scotland to northern Ireland and the uncooperative Roman Catholic Gaels already residing there. Maybe an Irish resident can weigh in here?
