But if we're talking about minor characters, I remember how happy I felt seeing that BG3 had canonically queer characters as like NPCs with 3 lines on top of the important characters
Because it shows that you can be queer without being super special and just live your little life
So NPCs matters

So yeah it's not about a perfect ratio and it's not a deal breaker either bc it's not on purpose in most cases but it doesn't mean writers can't start paying a little more attention bc some of those numbers were abysmal and I'm sure FF isn't the worst

social studies shows that if the quality of representation matters way more, the quantity is important as well even for minors characters (I saw this applied to books and movies but I'm sure we could apply it to video games)

Both are important, obviously better representation is what matters most, and, unless the game really don't let girls speak at all, I wouldn't use the dialogue ratio as only way to decide if I play a game or not.
On the other hand terribly sexists representations are a big no-no
But -

That being said in those situations there is never a perfect strategy so it's totally understandable to not think the move was that good
Personally I found it interesting but it's not what's gonna make me boycott FF either dw (S-E AI slop however...)

it's way easier to miss than a shitty representation
They explicitly said they weren't saying the FF are bad just that overall writers should be a bit more careful
And without that kind of figures sometimes it's hard to convince that there's a problem

Well I don't know their methodology but it's always important to start with facts besides I'm not sure many non yuri games would actually fit the bill bc its not that FF is sexist it's just an unconscious move for most
Players, writers and dev don't realize bc

That we still have work to do on women representation in medias and video games
They probably picked FF because it has lot of games so you can see the evolution
