by 2006 everyone hated bush because it was obvious how much he sucked, but they still liked deregulation and low taxes. the tech industry wanted lots of H1Bs, were fine with gay people, and thought war was bad for business. Maybe some genuinely thought they were "making the world a better place"

I'm not saying it will eliminate it, but it'll

1: cause a whole bunch of techbros immense pain. I crave this schadenfreude.
2: eliminate this godawful trend of putting AI in fucking EVERYTHING. My doorstop DOESN'T NEED AI CONNECTIVITY.
3: refocus AI to what it's ACTUALLY good at.

the only reason those facebook and google pride parade floats ever existed was because they knew that the appearance of being queer friendly and progressive was a good way to attract and retain talent and get to the top of the "good places to work" lists. Now with AI they don't need that varnish

the current swing towards MAGA and overt fascism and hyper-militarism and surveillance capitalism has always been there waiting in the wings of the tech business, and they were relieved to throw off their rainbow flags and BLM bumper stickers the very second the political atmosphere turned

apolitical nerds gave way to brogrammers and then became tech bros and their politics were entirely compatible with modern fascism (and indeed, modern fascism grew out of techbros posting to forums and various neoreaction blogs and such)

the queer geeky furries i hung out with and was one of, were never more than a small minority of tech workers, and as you rose in the ranks of most companies the management and C-levels got progressively less progressive and much more libertarian at best, if not hard right wing

somehow technology got a reputation for being a hotbed of liberals, or even leftists, but never forget tech grew from the aerospace industry, and was mostly libertarian. just because internet companies hired a lot of gay people, they were not woke by any stretch, even decades ago
