IC 2602 (also known as the Southern Pleiades) is an open cluster in the constellation Carina. Discovered by Abbe Lacaille in 1751 from South Africa, the cluster is easily visible to the unaided eye, and is one of the nearest star clusters, about 486 light-years away from Earth.

The Roman Salute was created by Italian fascists in the 1920s to mock Americans doing the Bellemay Salute created by Francis Bellemay, who wrote the American Pledge of Allegiance. It was adopted by the Nazi Party in 1926. There's no attestation in ancient Roman literature or art of a Roman Salute.

NGC 3372 - the Carina Nebula, is a beautiful area of light and dark nebulosity. Located in the Carina-Sagittarius arm of the Milky Way Galaxy, it's about 8,500 light years from Earth. It's about 4 times larger than Orion, and brighter, but less well known due to being so low in the Southern sky.
