Queer & disabled astronomer formerly at UofT & CITA. Dynamics, planets, & ballet. Posts reflect opinions of Sailor Galaxia, not my employer. She/her 👩‍🔬💃
Always in favour of people who call him out for what he is and what he's done. Love her videos in general, too!

Also don't mean for the "financially supporting" bit to make it sound like they're struggling or something 😅 I just mean that we can vote with our wallets :)

Additionally, Seven Rasmussen (@sevenrasmussen.com) is an astrobiologist and they have a book coming out in summer 2026: Cloudy With a Chance of Starships. I'm really excited to read it!

Katie Mack (@astrokatie.com) is also a cosmologist and I also highly recommend her book, The End of Everything (Astrophysically Speaking)!

Chanda Prescod-Weinstein (@chanda.blacksky.app) is a cosmologist and I highly recommend her book, The Disordered Cosmos. She also has an upcoming book, The Edge of Space-Time, that's available for pre-order!

I still stand firm by a particular stance:

We have so many phenomenal, talented, and good scientists. We don't need to platform and financially support those who use their positions and power as scientists to take advantage of and harm people, especially students and junior colleagues.

Many years ago, I posted a call not to purchase Krauss's books. He is a known sexual harasser. The evidence against him is overwhelming (some of which comes directly from him!) and very easy to find.

He responded with (what I interpreted as) a vague threat to sue me.

It's from 1500, so this pre-dates Copernicus's De revolutionibus orbium coelestium

I'm wondering if the "astrological numbers until 1995" part means that it's a book where they've tabulated the sky positions of the planets (and other relevant celestial objects) until the year 1995?

It feels so good to tackle something new, struggle with it, and then finally have something click.

I've been playing Crusader Kings and I've made so many mistakes, but I'm learning and it's fun. I'm sure I could've asked ChatGPT how to minmax for me, but why?

Not to say that any event will carry the risk of someone getting aggressive or violent. But provide some brief training on how to handle these kinds of interactions (especially if volunteers are students) & make sure you have a plan in place if someone does get aggressive.

I need to make a better quality version of this gif because Judi Dench and Maggie Smith are a delight in A Room With A View, but I adore this scene in particular.
two women are sitting in a field of grass holding flowers .
Alt: Maggie Smith and Judi Dench in A Room With A View. They are sitting in a field of grass and poppies, talking and laughing.

Anyhow, those 3rd year courses plus the optics course played a big role in me getting hired at TRIUMF for co-op jobs. I ended up being hopeless in a lab (dyspraxia and perfectly aligned optics do not mix), but the knowledge & skills I learned there were so helpful

Astro majors had to do a 3rd year E&M, but instead of the 4th year E&M that straight physics majors did, we took an optics course

Although this was for the honours programme. The major might've had different requirements
