At the beginning of my career, I was made to believe that being empathetic was a weakness and that I should "toughen up" if I wanted to succeed as a scientist/in the space sector. Sometimes, my male colleagues would tease me in very mean ways to "help me grow thick skin" or to "break me in".

I'm very grateful for the amazing turnout last Friday at the Washington DC premiere of my newest research & educational documentary: The Boss - Aconcagua. A lot of people came despite the looming snow storm the next day, which unfortunately caused flight cancellations for some of the attendees.

Meeting the first Slovak cosmonaut, Ivan Bella, and the last person to walk on the Moon (so far), Eugene Cernan, when I was a child, had a huge impact on my life.

This time last year, when I was in Antarctica, I struggled with being present. After 18 years of hard work and countless sacrifices, I finally made it to Antarctica on a research expedition of my own.

What are some of the things that could disqualify you from becoming an astronaut? Which country seems closest to sending humans to Mars?

I've always found that nature has a way of healing the body and mind. Whenever possible, I try to at least go for a walk or do some other sport that takes me outdoors.

"Now I know what I want to be when I grow up: you guys!" - That's what one of the students at the Capitol Hill Day School, in Washington DC, said to Cameron and I after my presentation there.

It's surreal to me every time someone tells me that their child read about me in their school's textbook. It's an incredible honor to be able to share my story of following my space dreams all the way to NASA and simulated space missions with elementary school children 😊.

I had the pleasure of sharing some of my knowledge, experiences and equipment with a few very young students at the Capitol Hill Day School in Washington DC recently 😊.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved nature, exploring the world and space. Around the time I started following my dream of becoming an astronaut, I joined the Girl Scouts, which also impacted my life 😊.

The tallest mountain in the world, Mount Everest, is called Chomolungma, also spelled Qomolangma, in Tibetan, which means "Goddess Mother of the World." The Nepalese name for Mount Everest is Sagarmatha, meaning "Goddess of the Sky."

I have dreamt about working for NASA since I was a little girl. Once I made it to NASA at the age of 21, as a visiting researcher, things were a bit different to what I expected 😅.

Right before midnight on New Year's Eve, I like to think about the biggest positives of the year - both personal and professional. It gives me a happy boost to start the new year with, all while thinking fondly about what the current year has brought me 😊.

Wishing everyone very happy holidays and all the very best! 😊

Though I'm not with my family this Christmas, Cameron and I are celebrating our own way - enjoying some much needed downtime for the body and mind.

I'm very grateful that during a recent short trip to Slovakia I was able to catch up with my family and some friends. The Christmas atmosphere was lovely as always, not only in Bratislava, but also in Trnava and Piešťany - two other towns that I visited for educational and outreach activities 😊.

What makes a great team in extreme conditions, like missions in space? There's no one-size-fits-all answer to that question, but my experience being the Commander of over 30 simulated missions to the Moon and Mars has helped me identify a few common factors of successful missions:
