My freezer is full of banana emergencies. Exactly as described. Except I freeze them first. Banana bread them later. Or banana muffins them. With chocolate. Of course.

An illustrator friend did a kid's book where one of the mums wore hijab. Not to make a point, just as part of a normal city school background. Took it to publisher and was asked to remove because it 'wasn't a book about inclusivity'

I often muse about nastiness in kidlit and how children need and want it. The question is: how do we include nastiness without reinforcing existing power structures? Matilda is by no means a perfect eg of this given the misogyny of Miss Trunchbull's portrayal but it's got the raw materials #KidLitUK
