I don't think there's an understanding to be reached, then.

Blaming Elon Musk on autism seems like a bad faith argument, don't you think?
Can we agree that autism is very complex and neither absolute good nor absolute bad?
In my opinion celebrating parts of it is a push in the right direction, it can be taken to far, but we're nowhere near that overall.

I don't really care for politeness, so I don't mind that. But I don't care to argue for it's own sake either. Autism is a deeply personal topic to me, so I was hopeful we could reach an understanding, if that's not possible I can't promise I'll stick around.
P.S., I don't understand your quote.

My genuine hope is that we can build a future where people like your friend's brother don't have to suffer as much, and people like your friend don't have to not only carry that weight but suffer themselves too, and I believe that pointing out the good sides of autism is a step in that direction.

You've obviously been forced to deal with the negative sides of autism—even if indirectly like in your friend's case. I'm sure that's not the only time, and I can see how seeing autism celebrated can seem like a spit in the face to those experiences, but I promise you that's not the intention here.

I don't understand, how is me saying that I'm sure you're aware that autism isn't always debilitating being interpreted to mean the opposite of that?
Again I understand where this bitterness is coming from, but I hope you can direct it in a more productive way.

I didn't claim you did, but shutting down an attempt to present autistic people in a positive light in a world that still largely demonizes them is whether you intended it or not, a push towards maintaining that status quo.

One can always find a negative side to everything, but focusing on it is a choice.

While I understand where you're coming from and truly feel for people that have to suffer due to debilitating neurodivergence, I believe that fostering a culture of understanding—even if it comes with undue celebration—can do much more for them than one that demonizes it.

I'm sure you're aware but not all manifestations of autism are debilitating, and often times they only are due to the environment they find themselves in.
