What gets me is that the assumption is that he got famous and then fucked up. But he was fucked up as a low key figure from the mid-1990s to 2000s, kept it under wraps, got famous and then word got out (which be denied).
In other words, his major career high was already an unearned second chance.

When I see the early seasons it messes with my head the degree to which Sesame Street sanitized itself before I even got to watch it. Like by the time I watched it Snuffy was already "real" and they'd switched Gordons and got rid of Roosevelt Franklin.
