True, but that applies to virtually everything and therefore can be considered accounted for. Fear (of affronting wealthy clients and the current administration) is a more parsimonious explanation. A profound moral failing (from my limited view).

This is just a side note and entirely speculative, but in this report as well and in others, it's striking to read how many monks use cell phones, *the* tool for fracturing attention. Many may use them wisely, but those who don't may ultimately lose the plot (and some may then rise to the top).
