Thank you. I don’t actually think of it as a battle. It will win eventually and there’s not much I can do about that. I see it as medicine’s job to hold it back where it can and my job to defy it by living as fully as possible.

There are many kinds of breast cancer and not all treatments are for all breast cancers. My cancer is triple negative so will not respond to hormonal treatments. How anyone responds to treatment depends on type of cancer and their own unique genetic set up. My cancer is as unique as I am.

I have an incurable cancer but that doesn’t mean I’m about to die or that I am feeling poorly. My treatment has made my cancer stable for now. I will work and play as I always did.

Treatments can control but not cure the cancer.

My recent treatment was surgery. That has controlled it for now. I will probably need other treatments in the future as and when the cancer becomes detectable again.

No evidence of disease or active disease (NED or NEAD) does not mean cured. It means right now imaging and testing shows either no detectable cancers or the cancers there are aren’t currently growing.

I cannot “beat this”.
There is no cure for metastatic breast cancer. It’s also known as advanced, secondary or stage 4. The only way I beat it is by dying of something else first.
