Not Aurora Australis but the twilight sky is just as beautiful.
Hoping I can see the Aurora in a few minutes.

Another long walk in the Dandenongs. Luckily no rain.
Did see a wombat, but was rigged up, so no pictures of the magnificent trees rising into the distance.

22km walk along the Maribrynong River today.
There are so many great walks only about 10 km out of Melbourne city.
And the weather was beautiful - cold but the sun was out often.
Clear, flowing water in the foreground, yellow rushes in the middle ground and tall trees in the background. The blue sky is peeping in the middle of the trees. Zooming into the tree canopy shows the many flying foxes roosting. They appear like hanging pine cones!

Have always wanted to make bread but am not a fan of eating it!
So decided to try this one - an oat-nut-seed bread. Haven’t tasted yet!

Amazing sunset today!
The cookies were visible for almost an hour as the sun went down. Not a brief splash, but an opera!
Sky lit up with yellow, oranges and pinks against a pale blue. Framed by palm trees, the path and the beach. A little hut stands on the left foreground. The colours are brighter as the sun sets - the glow is now a deep orange with gold bands closer to the horizon. At the top the sky is grey blue with patches of clouds reflecting pink and orange. The sun is almost gone - the hut is in the right foreground and beach and ocean are just a glimmer in the fore and middle ground

Walk along Sorrento beach today. Along the bean and along the cliff tops where the best views are!

Beautiful day for Mother’s Day. Also, for a longish walk in Healesville to check out Maroondah Dam.
Water level was low but the scenery was just amazing!
The leaves are changing to their autumn colours - just beautiful.

Also shows it’s possible to have a low maintenance garden.
Mine are in pots, and still very low maintenance!
And I get fruit!
These are strawberry guavas that have plumped up from all the waste water from my sink.

Decided that I needed to cook something different or two.
So made garlic potatoes (Indian style) and mutter tofu (as in mutter paneer).
Plated dinner: sweet potato parathas on the left, peas tofu curry top right and garlic potatoes bottom right.

Today a not-too long walk along the beach near Beaumaris.
Some great rock formations and bonus was running into a bunch of people campaigning for Teal Independents! And of course I had to get a shot of the Melbourne skyline

Easter break and I’m using my free time!
Yesterday I tried a new recipe - sweet potato parathas. Used plenty of spices to counter the sweetness.
Almost Round yellow tinted parathas with bits of green visible .

Only found out late last year that 2023 was the year of millets - small seeded grasses. So have been trying to include more of these in my diet.
Made little millet upma this morning. And wow does it double in volume!
Fun fact: millets are gluten-free.
Woke up with pale yellow coloured grains interspersed with orange carrot, and green peas and white coconut bits.

It’s our new year today.
So I made patholi - a sweet that’s made with turmeric leaves.
And of course, shared with neighbour.

Open turmeric leaves spread with a base layer of plain flour+ grated coconut paste, and a filling of churn - a mix of grated coconut, jaggery and cardamom. The leaves are folded and steamed. The filling absorbs the wonderful smell of the turmeric leaves.

Beautiful weather in Melbourne today. Just right for a 15km walk in the Dandenong Ranges - some sustained climbs accompanied by bush bashing on narrow tracks.
Just the right state to the weekend.
