*sigh* I hope a national newspaper here picks that up. A lot of us are on Ukraine's side.

Another feather in the cap for Sweden!

For it to be meaningful, these fines need to hurt. Can we start making them a few hundred million dollars, please?
November 25, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Can't say I blame them. Pipelines do burst, and humans cannot breathe CO2. Witness the Lake Nyos limnic explosion in 1986.

Still? Is there anyone here who thought it had anything to do with efficiency?

What a great idea!

While here in WY, every legislator from the state on up is desperate to increase coal mining because it makes them wealthy, they don't have any other ideas, and they can't fathom the idea of a state income tax (sales tax, sure, but not on income!).

That was my reaction when I saw that tweet.

Pretty sure the closest Asian grocery store where I live is 100 miles to the south.

If she thinks that's a strong deal, she should consider how she'd feel about giving up a chunk of the U.S.

I find my risk tolerance is a lot higher. I know people who were hit by a car once, and they said, "Never again." I've been hit 4 times, but I still ride. Bike lanes here are nonexistent, and the closest place to find bus lanes is two hours south of here in Denver.
November 23, 2025 at 4:55 PM
Exactly. I think about the "not everyone can" part a lot. It's like if you can't afford a car, your time is automatically less valuable.

Or can't drive after dark. That really limits options for work.
November 23, 2025 at 4:44 PM
We have bus transit here in Cheyenne, WY--I've taken it when necessary--but the routes are such that I can get where I need to go faster by riding my bike in a 25+ mph headwind. The cities have been talking about train access along the Front Range for 30 years, but so far, it's just talk.

Governments should stop subsidizing oil so we can finds out how much it really costs. (Here in the U.S. oil companies were subsidized some $20 billion in 2018.)

Such bills are performative. I'm tired of performances. Do something real for a change! And while you're at it, quit perpetuating the idea that just because the word socialist is part of Nazi ideology means that the two are the same!

I am volunteering in the vet clinic at the animal shelter today. This will be a discussion topic.

Expressed regret? Please. He's only sorry that he got caught. Just goes to show that being educated does not prevent one from being slimy.

Good grief! What idiots!

Of course they do. (Did my M.SC. on wetlands biodiversity.) They can't see that wetlands serve a useful purpose. I'd love to throw some literature at them, but I'm positive it would never be read.
