DeeksFest 2025 was one of those rare moments in academic life when you pause, blink twice, and wonder how on earth you get to call this work.

Spoiler the video includes many laughs, insights, and me accusing Ashley of being a mage and putting up a slide of her in a Harry Potter sorting hat.

This Fall, I’ll be teaching Torts with a casebook I wrote: Torts: Cases, Problems, and Policy Choices. It’s free. It’s online. And it’s built with one goal in mind: student accessibility.

Check it out on @harvardlil.bsky.social's OpenCasebook.org platform: opencasebook.org/casebooks/15...

Spent the last 48-hrs with two of my absolute best academic friends, Russell Buchan and @leahwest-nsl.bsky.social, chatting about my forthcoming book on the role of int’l law in the regulation of espionage. Saying I had fun would be the understatement of the century!

Great couple of days of conferencing in Amsterdam and then at @unileiden.bsky.social in Den Haag.. talking about tech companies’ liability under international criminal law, and new modes of regulation of industries of prediction. Both early works-in-progress.

Well this is a first.. an @iumaurerlaw.bsky.social student just shared a drawing of how she imagined the events on my final torts exam hypo playing out in reality.

Can you guess which legal issues were discussed in the exam based on this drawing?

Great reminder that I need to finish grading!

A student just sent this to me. I guess I’m bound to start each torts proximate cause class session with this video moving forward.

How far along would you extend liability?

A modern video adaptation of Andrew’s illustration in Palsgraf about the chauffeur, the dynamite, and the nursemaid.

In 2022 I co-edited "The Rights to Privacy & Data Protection in Times of Armed Conflict" for @natohq.bsky.social Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence (CCDCOE). The study of wartime digital rights protection turned into a full research agenda for me, and has carried through my scholarship.

🚨 New Article Alert! 🚨

Revisiting the age old debate: is software a product, a service, or just a glitch in the matrix? In this ILJ piece I dive into a 50-state survey, post-3rd Rstmt case law, & even throw in EU law analysis and Platonic idealism for good measure.

I don’t know what I did differently but I believe I got an image slightly more representative of the school’s rejection of positivism.

As a general matter, I rarely write about #Israel #Palestine. I fear the situation is intractable & the pain is paralyzing. Writing with Omar was therapeutic & I hope it proves collaborative scholarship, across political divides, is still possible, even now.
