Sometimes I write, sometimes I take photos, and sometimes I use R to parse large data sets in the millions of entries.
I will still be producing the occasional chart and map, just not as a reporter for LWC. I plan on getting back to posting more of them on Bluesky in the weeks ahead.

The Hall is what Darren and I called the weekly preview council column at @livewirecalgary.bsky.social for a good long time.

Although I've always preferred calling it Council Island, because its the best reality TV show on the air.

Like I've been telling folks, I'm not going far. Just getting even more hyperlocal.

Thanks Lindsay. It's a real opportunity to make improvements in my home ward.

Gone, but not that far. I'll still be posting on Blue Sky and probably returning more to my roots of making data accessible through charts as a side hobby.

It'll be a change, but after getting *this* close to joining the CBC team as the city hall reporter, I realized that is where I wanted to be to work to improve democracy in Calgary.

It's also an opportunity for LWC to introduce fresh new ideas to the team.

I suspect that the motion will be vary narrowly defined however when it comes before council to allow for all flags but national flags. I don't think it's unfair to say that this is really about the Israel/Palestine conflict, and that flying the flag of say New Zealand probably wouldn't raise ire.

Ostensibly this is about unity, but I can easily imagine how Canadians who are also tied to their cultural roots would feel like this disenfranchises them. After all we are a multi-cultural nation and not a melting pot.

Not to mention courtesy hosting flags of visiting nations during events.

In fact there are 19 poles for the flying of flags at the Police and Firefighter Memorial Plaza, of which 18 are dedicated full time to Canadian flags for the nation, provinces, and treaty peoples.

The courtesy pole is located away from those poles for courtesy flag raisings.
