SELF being the lens through which one understands The World, institutionalists are never prepared for institutional demise, nor are they aware of their own contributions to that end.

One never knows more about The World than oneSelf. The conceits of narrow intelligence lead us to believe otherwise.

The superficial explanation - incomplete, but valid - is institutionalists believe externalities will save them from the worst of human ignorance: exploitation, avarice, malice.

So, yes, naive, but mostly about what it means to be human, as people exempt themselves from harsh social judgments.

BTW, this proposition only constitutes “doomerism” among people conveniently ignoring the last half-century of US history. I’m not saying a shift toward accountability is impossible; only that the public has thus far been unwilling to examine the factors and dynamics underlying the status quo.

Don’t know about protecting human happiness, but Nature has a lot of redundancy, and we have much to learn from Nature. Many of us self-sabotage by applying obsolete concepts of “success” ingrained at an early age. We could all benefit by being more mindful in distinguishing between Want and Need.
