Gloomy day in early May. The weather forecast was a liar. It called for sun breaks in the morning that never happened. We actually got snowed on at one point. It’s okay though, we still enjoyed ourselves on this hike near North Bend. Even found a former Fire Lookout site. #rainyday

Texas 5/5: We managed to fit in a hike out to Balanced Rock. I saw this one on Alltrails and couldn’t pass it up. Though the hot sun had us taking lots of breaks in the shade. So we didn’t hang around for very long.

Texas 4/5: Our second day of backpacking in Big Bend started with a moody sky. It was a nice break but we booked it out of there before the sun chased the clouds away and brought the heat again.

Texas 3/5: During our backpacking trip we summited Emory Peak. It was pretty high for Texas 😁 (7,825 ft).

Texas 2/5: In Big Bend, first day of our backpacking trip. The high temps were extremely taxing. After nearly 11 miles in full sun I was ready to reach camp and relax my burned/tired body. Once at the south rim the wind gusts were pretty significant but it was a nice change from the crushing heat.

Texas 1/5: Hey Ya’ll! I went to Texas in April. It was more colorful than I expected. But the heat and dryness was legit. #southwest

First stay in a Fire Lookout this year: In late April, I spent two nights in the ground house of this lookout in eastern WA. It was very accommodating with a gas heater, stove, & even a fridge! The tower is off limits but you don’t need to be up high to enjoy the view.

In April, I had to travel out east and decided to make the most of a long drive by hitting up a trail on the way. Even though temps were in the 70s it was pretty hot due to the sun exposure. Good preparation for a trip down south I’d be taking the following weekend.

In April, my friend wanted to climb a mountain for her birthday. I was more than happy to oblige.
I’ve done the summer route to this peak before and was looking forward to coming back for the winter route.

First new Fire Lookout visit of the year! In April, we took the long drive and long walk (avoiding private land boundaries) to this field of dreams. So many wildflowers and a beautiful cloudy sky. The eastern mountains also did not disappoint.

Took my mom out to this beautiful waterfall off a trail which was converted from an old logging railway. Some fallen trees need to be cleared but the trail was generally in great shape. Great for all fitness levels.

In March, we encountered a bit more snow than expected on our chosen route but it was still a lovely evening ☃️

When the weather is not the greatest but you and your friends need to get outside! You just go!
It started out really warm and nice but got chilly as the clouds rolled in. We still had an amazing time!

Early March, I took a little stroll on one of my favorite winter trails out of Longmire. Probably pretty underwhelming for most tourists visiting the park but I enjoy it.

I have explored a lot of Mount Rainier National Park but this is the only mine that I know of within the park boundaries. It’s off a very pretty & accessible trail at the Carbon River entrance.
Currently the old bridge (Fairfax) to this side of the park has been closed. Not sure for how long. #mine

When the super-bowl aired last month, I opted to go for a sunset hike instead. It was very cold and windy, but that just made it more memorable.

I’ve been chasing sunsets a lot lately. This is from sometime in January when I only had a few hours for a hike. I went out to this super popular trail by North Bend. Haven’t been here in years but it’s a great place for a short trip. #mountains

Rally on 3/1! I meet so many amazing people! We want action to protect our Park & Forest Service employees! They keep us & our public lands safe! We also want action to fight against any orders from this administration to gut public land to line their pockets.

Snowshoeing at Rainier. One of my favorite winter activities. I’m very lucky that I live close enough to this amazing National Park, and surrounding National Forests, that I can escape to them any time I feel the need. I can’t imagine life without them.

Iron Horse Trail with family 2/3: This trail was very beautiful! We even got a nice view of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the distance. Can’t wait to do more backpacking up there this coming summer. #mountains

Iron Horse Trail with family 1/3: I met my mom and sister for a hike up north. We explored an old railroad tunnel system, now historical site. It had a lot of really spooky caves and tunnels so of course I really enjoyed myself 👻 #tunnels

On this hike I did not make it to the summit because I got fed up at the last steep snowshoe section and it was getting dark.
On long treks, it is always a good idea to have a set turn around time. Especially in winter when conditions are more severe. #mountains
