i recalled what i knew about fanfic on quizilla back in the day and how wattpad came to be and while telling someone about it i realize in hindsight how fucking wild this is

wattpad started up when a bunch of other similar "internet companies trying to trick young writers who want to be published into writing some cliche original book they can buy the rights to and turn into a movie" sites started
but ended up taking over with the 1d fandom back in like 2012
and resulted in all of this
(in response to "every time you mention quizilla i'm surprised there was fanfic hosted there lol"): it is genuinely so stupid that fanfic was hosted there, in retrospect
but also hilarious
like the entire "question" would be the fanfic
and then you'd click on an "answer" for the results which were the author's notes
and you could just make the question have one possible selection answer
also you could customize the quiz look with css so the "question"/body of the fic could have custom styles for the story
in hindsight this is really fucking wild
