This is such a pivotal moment in history. I really hope the EU will come through on this for our own sake. Otherwise there will be very dark days ahead.

Det var mest ett skämt om att även USA snart kanske inte längre kan betraktas som en demokrati och i så fall inte heller uppfylla kraven för NATO medlemskap. Trump vill ju lämna NATO så det skulle ju vara ett lite dråpligt sätt att uppnå målet det på. Det var långsökt jag vet.

Sad to see Sweden not leading here. But I've always regarded Kristersson as a weak leader so I'm not surprised we're simping for the US at every stage. We should really be more like the Danes and Finns.

Problemet är att du fortfarande tror att det finns en botten på hur långt han kan sjunka. När man accepterat att så inte är fallet så slutar man förvånas. Ganska befriande faktiskt.

I envy your optimism and I agree somewhat. It's mostly the time frame I'm worried about. I think it will take quite a while to get back to something like the world order we had. And a lot of people will suffer in the meantime.

Yes and the Nordic/Baltic. I think the Baltic countries will be next so they would need the deterrent as soon as possible. I don't think France or the UK are ready to stick their neck out for them sadly.

While Trump will be gone it's not realistic to think that the general trend towards autocracy will not continue. It has picked up pace the last couple of years but it has been going on for decades. I do not think the elections in the US will be fair so any resistance will have to take other forms.

Well NATO guarantees are pretty much useless for any European country right now so not giving up much there anymore. Better to use the old NATO framework to construct new real alliances with countries that will stand by Ukraine. NB8, UK, Netherlands, maybe Poland and Germany would be a good start.

Yeah hard to know what's going on but I hope he's playing some sort of game. He's arguably pretty smart so I hope he has some sort of plan? But he could also be drifting of into his own fantasies. In either case I look forward to reading his book in 20 years about his thoughts during these times.

Skulle inte utesluta att USA inom något år helt byter sida och börjar förse ryssland me intel i första hand och sedan direkt stödja militär upprustning för att skydda sina nya affärspartners. Får se vad Must säger då. Är nog något år tidig med denna. Hursomhelst, spännande att följa.

The probably think they can turn Ukraine pro-russian and have another Trojan horse to destroy the union from within. One more semi-stable country inside the EU is a benefit to the American-russian aim. They probably think it's worth the risk.

The thing is that most baffling as an outsider is that Americans don't seem understand that they are not going to be able to vote authoritarianism away in 2028. That's not how that works.
